The weights are 'off-the-shelf' cannon balls with eye hooks.
Up to ten, 16 ounce cannon balls will fit best on the bottom hub in two layers.
The weights are held up above the bottom so that the force is directed out to the tips. Our crab pot digs in much like an anchor.
Much less weight is required to hold the Crab Pod® on the bottom! Flat bottomed crab catching boxes requires three times the weight to hold the same current. Even then, the flat bottomed crab trap may tumble in the current, allowing the crabs to escape.
Generally it is not necessary to have more than five, 12 oz. cannon balls.
